DESCRIPTION
JELLY is a wall light folded out of translucent plastic. Its form is inspired by the radial symmetric anatomy of jellyfish while the function of the flexible shade corresponds to its locomotion principle. The function of the adaptable shade is based on a sensible folding mechanism at the centre that reacts to manual pressure by flapping in and out. Through that the shade is a diffuser and physical dimmer at the same time creating different lighting mood (directed and atmospheric or diffuse and bright).
MANUFACTURE & STRUCTURE
JELLY is composed of a few, easily producible and recyclable components. All parts are folded up from two-dimensional lasered parts into a three-dimensional wall light. The multifunctional wall ring functions as a wall mounting as well as a housing for lamps and the electronical parts.
BACKGROUND
Inspired by Kunstformen der Natur (known in English as Art Forms in Nature) by Ernst Haeckel a simple paper folding of a jellyfish was developed and transformed into a wall light.
